Latest 3D Dental Technology
One of the biggest concerns for dental patients of all descriptions is the length of time and number of visits it can take before an issue is fully resolved. Whether undergoing a cosmetic or medical procedure, everybody prefers their time spent in the chair to be as brief as possible.
Of course, the vast majority are also very well aware that dental medicine is not straightforward – accepting that correct care and measure taken on part of the practitioner is far more important than their own wishes to escape the pry of the odontoscope.
3D Technology within Dentistry
One breakthrough within recent years that is working to cut dental procedure times drastically however, is the incorporation of 3D technology.
One instrument in particular – CEREC – is providing dental practices such as our own to provide fast, effective and medically precise solutions to patients, saving time and hassle in a way that has never been seen before.
An acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or Ceramic Reconstruction for short, this revolutionary new system is allowing practitioners to provide natural feeling and looking tooth repairs in a fraction of the previous time.
How does CEREC work?
Utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology, each CEREC unit incorporates a camera for mapping, internal computer processor/screen and a milling machine for unit production. Once an accurate picture is taken of the damaged tooth, the optical impression is displayed via the screen and a precisely crafted ceramic created. This ceramic is then fitted and bound to the damaged area – each time a perfect fit.
Outside of providing an extremely fast and convenient alternative to former methods (the whole CEREC process takes around 1 hour), this technology also rids dental patients of garish silver fillings spoiling those pearly white smiles. Created with natural-looking material that is plaque resistant and compatible with the mouths tissue, the benefits of CEREC restorations far exceed merely eliminating that dreaded follow-up appointment!
