Our cosmetic dentist, Dr. Dhulab, offers veneers in Matthews, Charlotte and the surrounding areas.
What are veneers?
Veneers are a minimally invasive procedure that corrects a variety of cosmetic dental blemishes including:
- Discolored teeth
- Worn down enamel
- Chipped/broken teeth
- Misaligned teeth
- Gaps in teeth
In 2006, over 600,000 people chose veneers, and the numbers continue to rise each year because of the dramatic improvement that veneers offer patients. Veneers are thin, tooth-shaped shells made of porcelain or resin composite materials. Veneers are bonded over the front of the tooth to mask imperfections and mimic the shape and color of your teeth. Veneers also resist stains which creates a perfect, yet natural looking, smile.
How do veneers work?
There are three general steps to choosing veneers:
Patients who are interested in veneers will meet with Dr. Mitesh Dhulab. During the initial meeting, Dr. Dhulab will examine your teeth and decide if veneers are appropriate for you. During the consultation, you will be able to choose the color, shape and size of your veneers. At this point, Dr. Dhulab may choose to make a cast of your teeth and mouth.
To prepare for the veneer bonding process, a small amount of enamel will be removed from the tooth. Typically, only ½ millimeter will be removed to allow for a more natural, less bulky fit for your new veneers. While this is relatively pain-free, local anesthetic may be applied for patients who may be anxious about the procedure.
After the enamel is removed, Dr. Dhulab will make a cast of your teeth and mouth to be sent to the laboratory where your veneers will be crafted. It usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks to get your veneers back from the lab. In many cases, however, Dr. Mitesh will be able to employ the advanced CEREC technology to create and place your veneers in just one visit!
Before bonding, our dentist will make any last minute changes to the shape, size and color of the veneers as you see fit. Your teeth will be cleaned and the veneers will be bonded to the front of the teeth using a special cement. Once in place, Dr. Dhulab will remove any extra cement and make the final adjustments needed for a perfect smile! A follow-up visit may be required after a few weeks to check on gums and veneer placement.
